sa hangganan is a (semi-)regular newsletter about borders, migration, and history. "Sa hangganan" means "at the boundary" or "at the limit" in Tagalog. This newsletter is a space to explore what is left at and pushed to the boundaries of history and nations. I also share reading recommendations and resources based on my writing and research.

You might know me from Instagram and TikTok as franexplainshistory. franexplainshistory was a channel focused on making (de)colonial history and theory more accessible, based on my Master’s coursework and dissertation. I made video explainers on Orientalism, Benevolent Assimilation, and migration of Filipino nurses, which you can still watch. I’m no longer making videos as franexplainshistory, so sa hangganan is its successor, as I’ll be covering a lot of the same themes.

I write and organise on migration and border violence. I'm interested in history and how it shapes the borders we resist today. You might know me as franexplainshistory on Instagram. Subscribe to "sa hangganan" to read about what I'm working on now.
